I feel like a lot of us are completely forgetting that the new challenger is going to be built on the Alfa Giulia platform. The Giorgio platform seems to weigh in from about 3300-3800lbs which is on par with the current Camaro and Mustang.

Do you know how exciting that is to me? All of the big 3 back at it full force. Dont get me wrong, the challenger currently occupies a nice niche for those looking for an old school muscle car, and I would love to own a scat pack, but seeing GM and Ford duke it out in the world of actual non pig sports coupes has been amazing (and resulted in embarrassing a lot of very expensive cars around a track).

Also very exciting is that the charger will be rebuilt on the Giorgio platform as well. Who doesn’t love a new midweight sports sedan to give the 3 series and other big boys some competition?

If you ask me they should just take the current challenger shape and just downsize it by 15% and slap it on the new chassis and you have a winner.

Kinja'd!!!

Sure, it will take a while to roll it out, and by then there may be a new mustang and camaro coming that will be faster, but ive always wanted a downsized challenger body just slapped onto the 6th gen camaro chassis, and this seems like itll be pretty close.

Sign me up for the new challenger scat pack.

Also brings the possibility of a manual Charger!

Id say more than a possibility, probably guaranteed. The camaro and mustang have a high (compared to the abysmal average) take rate on sticks. And since it may not be the best around a track out of the three, it needs to at least be a very enjoyable car to drive which means big hemi out front and a stick shift in the middle.

I remember the reason the current Charger was never manual was because they would have to crash test it seperatly, and now that Dodge is more performance based across the board I can see them going through the expense of having a manual charger, compete with the SS.

Yeah it would be like a downsized SS, which sounds pretty perfect to me. It will probably be a little more aggressively styled than the SS too which is a plus for some.

I imagine they might not want to cannibalize the alfa giulia itself though so you never know.

Ive always loved the look of the challenger but not it’s size. So I hope you’re right. Although, 15% would be a massive downsizing. I think 5-7% smaller would put it in mustang/Camaro realm.

Yeah youre right its hard to visualize percentage differences in car sizes but 5-7% seems about right. Keep the haunches and the grille with circle headlights though because those are the defining features that keep the challenger pretty even though its soooo outdated now.

I wonder what the police package will look like.

Should note that a lot is being built on that platform.

Challenger, Charger, Durango, Grand Cherokee, Guilia, Stelvio, Larger Alfa Sedan, Larger Alfa CUV, Ghibli, Quarttroporte, Levante, Granturismo, and Alfieri all come to mind. Notice I didnt say Chrysler 300, I still think that’s pulling a Commodore.

they will all be good to drive. Im glad they are following the GM practice as of late to just spend a ton to develop a really good versatile chassis and save money at scale.

I love the exhaust of the Chrysler Hemi. A taste of the old-school lumpy blatty idle. A more nimble chassis would be great.

Yeah its my favorite v8 sound wise. Even when a beat up early 2000s ram 1500 burbles by I crane my neck because it sounds so good.

FCA has been successful with the Challenger and Charger as large fullsize cars. I do not see them abandoning that recipe. They might save some weight, but I expect them to remain a size class above the Camaro and Mustang.

With the Alpha platform, yes the Camaro is as light as 3400 lbs, but at the other end the CTS-V is almost 4200 lbs.

I just wish the Challenger/Charger would finally catch up to the Stang/Camaro and use an aluminum block already! Iron blocks are fine for Hellcats and Demons, but a lighter block would better fit the T/A!

Maybe not because even if it is less power but faster people will still complain.

Yeah they definitely need an aluminum 5.7 and 6.4

In the looks department, the Dodge brothers have the Stang and Camaro beat, but I’d be silly to say they are as agile as them.

This news makes me very excite.

That was my though process but apparently they are thinking of totally redoing the looks of the challenger and making it non retro...i hope they just keep the general shape as its my favorite of the 4 by far.

They really have something with the current Challenger’s design, SURELY they won’t bring us something out of left field...
